Parent and Child Dedication Service
(Information and scheduling)
Mountain View Mennonite Chapel believes it is important to provide a parent child dedication service for parents who are regular attendees of this congregation. The purpose of this service is to publicly commit themselves as parents to growing with God and committing to provide a godly home and meaningful church relationship for their children to hear truth and develop a personal relationship with Christ.
Parents who participate in a parent and child dedication service are committed to:
- Be a Christian parent who desires to be faithful to God and his/her marriage. Single parents who are called to be faithful to God as a single parent or grandparent who are filling the parental role for a child are encouraged to participate in this service.
- Be committed to the duty of teaching the meaning and purpose of the Christian life to your child.
- Live a life of integrity before God and my child.
Understanding about a Parent/child dedication service
Is a Parent/child dedication service the same as infant baptism?
Parent/child dedication is not the same as the practice of infant baptism. We believe that baptism is administered upon repentance from sin and personal confession of faith in Christ as Savior and Lord. Since infants can't make that decision we do not baptize infants. When a child is old enough to understand salvation and personally make that commitment they are encouraged to begin a relationship with Christ and talk to the leadership of the church to schedule taking the step of publicly declaring their faith in Christ through baptism.
Why a parent/child dedication service?
Your role as a parent is very important to God, your child, and to us as a community of faith. We want to do all we can to be supportive of your role as a parent. Since the primary responsibility of the spiritual nurture and formation of children rests upon the shoulders of parents we want to pray for you and participate with your family as a local church
